Customer: Werribee Secondary College
Werribee Secondary College, in the city of Wyndham, 30km south west of Melbourne, is a co-educational, Government High School with over 1500 students in Years 7 to 12. Unlike most other Victorian Government Schools, it offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP) alongside the more traditional Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) and Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL). The College’s IB accreditation in 2012 made it the first Victorian Government school to offer this option.
With a culture of hard work, high achievement and an international perspective, ‘Wyndham’s International High School’ - not only has excellent results across all three senior certificates, but also offers outstanding extra-curricular opportunities. These include a school based unit of the Australian Army Cadets, providing both male and female students with opportunities to develop leadership and practical skills.
Werribee Secondary College’s international outlook is fostered not only by offering the IBDP, but also by its accreditation as member of the Council of International Schools, (CIS) which is headquartered in the Netherlands. An International Student program provides students the opportunity to befriend and study alongside 75 overseas students, along with regular International Sister School student visits. The College has a strong performing arts profile in music and has developed professional standard theatre facilities in partnership with the Wyndham Theatre Company. This combination of academic excellence and the opportunity for personal development has made Werribee Secondary College a school of choice for many in the City of Wyndham.
Like most schools, Werribee Secondary College has a high demand amongst its teachers, administrative staff and students for print, copy and scan facilities. In 2010, realising that they were spending more than they needed, the College carried out an in-depth review of the market, which led them to switch from their previous provider to Toshiba. It’s a decision that has proved to be sound – the College was so impressed with Toshiba’s products and service that they stuck with them when the time came to refresh their fleet of Multi-Function Printers (MFPs).
We looked at a range of providers and Toshiba stood out. Their technology works really well, it offers greater functionality at a lower cost. - William Hatzis, Deputy Principal
William Hatzis, Deputy Principal at Werribee Secondary College explains why they chose Toshiba initially and stayed with them for the refresh. We looked at a range of providers and of all of them, Toshiba stood out. Their technology works really well, it offers greater functionality for lower cost, and Toshiba’s service is fantastic. Our account manager really understands education, our needs and we receive personalised attention and care”.
Rob Colonnello, the College’s Toshiba Account Manager says: “When I first engaged with Werribee Secondary College, I could see that switching to Toshiba would save them significant amounts of money compared to their previous arrangement. The best option for them was to purchase the Multi-Function Devices (MFDs), and then pay a per copy fee that covers automated toner fulfilment and service. Usage is recorded via a meter reading, eliminating management overhead by the College”.
Since the refresh, the College has 10 Toshiba copier/printers: one in each of the junior, middle and senior school areas, one in the music area, three in the school offices and three for general staff use.
Kayelene Meehan, the College’s Office Manager, explains the difference that Toshiba devices have made to her work: “I love the fact that we can print banners on the Toshiba devices”, she says. “The College uses banners for publicity and marketing – for example to share our end of year results. With our Toshiba printers, we can produce a 1.2m colour banner on our standard printers. Previously we had to have a dedicated specialist printer – and its ink had a very short shelf life, meaning it had to be replaced even if it wasn’t used”.
She also values the support from Rob and the Toshiba team: “They are so responsive – whenever I call I get the information or help I need within the day”.
William highlights the ability for the Toshiba device to hold a printout until the user reaches the printer and enters a code. “It means that each user can be sure of finding their printout”, he explains, “without it getting buried under others, or accidentally removed before they arrive. With close to 1700 users, that makes a real difference”.
Summing up the decision to move to, and stick with, Toshiba, William says: “With Toshiba we get everything we needed: more functionality for less money, high quality output and outstanding service. Rob has become our trusted advisor, and we value his personalised service. We’re very happy we made the decision for Toshiba – by providing us with no-fuss, reliable print technology they free us up to provide the best possible educational outcomes for our students”.
